Iran Firm to Boost Ties with Iraq: First VP

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri, who is in Iraq for an official visit, said Tehran is determined to develop relations with Baghdad.

Jahangiri on Tuesday stressed Iran’s firm resolve to expand all-out economic and commercial relations with the neighboring country.

Speaking at a visit to Iran exhibition in Baghdad, he voiced confidence that the Iraqi government and prime minister have the same resolve.

“Rest assured that the path of (developing) relations between Iran and Iraq is irreversible,” the senior official stated.

He further referred to the plummeting oil prices as a challenge for Iraq and Iraq, saying that the two countries should work for developing their economy and industry without reliance on oil revenues.

He noted, though, that the decline in oil prices is a political conspiracy against independent counties, and hoped that through efforts by countries like Iran and Iraq, the price of oil will get back to where it should be.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, comprised of 5 ministers and 2 vice presidents, Jahangiri started a three-day tour of Iraq on Monday at the invitation of Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.
