Tajikistan Eyes Iran’s Experience to Counter Narcotics, Terrorism

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Tajikistan’s minister of internal affairs voiced the Central Asian country’s willingness to benefit from Iran’s experience in the fight against terrorism, extremism as well as drugs and arms trafficking.

General Ramazon Rahimzoda made the comments in a meeting with Iran's Police Chief Brigadier General Esmail Ahmadi Moqaddam in Tehran on Thursday.

The Tajik minister, who also serves as police chief, said his country will soon dispatch “expert delegations” to Iran to receive training from the Iranian police as part of an agreement the two Persian-speaking countries have already signed.

The Iranian commander, for his part, said Iran is ready to promote cooperation with Tajikistan and other regional countries in a bid to counter drug-trafficking, terrorism and extremism and to control the borders.

The visiting Tajik minister had also held a separate meeting with his Iranian counterpart Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli earlier in the day, in which Tehran and Dushanbe agreed to establish a joint working group to promote border security cooperation.

Rahimzoda and Rahmani Fazli also signed a security and military cooperation agreement.

Earlier in September 2014, Rahmani Fazli had paid a visit to the Tajik capital of Dushanbe, during which he signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the fight against illicit drugs.
