Iran, Japan to Further Boost Environmental Cooperation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran and Japan have signed an agreement to promote mutual cooperation in areas related to environment, including efforts to settle air pollution as well as management of wetlands and coasts, a Japanese official said.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 14th International Exhibition of Enviro 2015 in Tehran on Saturday, Japanese Vice-Minister of Environment Soichiro Seki pointed to his country’s cooperation with Iran over the past two decades in the environmental sphere.

He said since a meeting between Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe back in September 2013, the two Asian countries have made efforts to boost environmental cooperation.

Seki added that in line with the efforts, Iranian Vice-President and Head of Environmental Protection Organization Masoumeh Ebtekar and Japanese Minister of Environment signed a cooperation agreement.

Acceding to the agreement, the first meeting of the two sides was held for the exchange of experiences in the environmental areas, including management of wetlands and coasts and air pollution caused by dust particles, he noted.

The 14th International Exhibition of Enviro 2015 is scheduled to continue in the Iranian capital until February 24.
