Iranian Police Smash 20 Gangs in Capital, Arrest 101 Outlaws
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s law enforcement forces, in a major operation in the capital overnight, dismantled 20 gangs involved in robbery and violent acts, Commander of Tehran Police Force General Hossein Sajedinia announced.
“According to the promise that we had gave to the people to further ensure security in the capital, early this morning a massive police operation to disband 20 gangs of outlaws was carried out,” General Sajedinia said on Monday.
He went on to say that during the operation, 101 outlaws, among them violent muggers, burglars, and car thieves, were arrested.
The police commander further emphasized that 70 to 80 percent of the arrested culprits already had criminal records for similar crimes.
Earlier on Saturday, the Iranian anti-narcotics police chief also announced that police forces have seized 445 tons of different types of illicit drugs in the country over the past 11 months.
“During the last 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2014 - February 19, 2015) and following police measures on campaign against narcotics, 445 tons of different types of illicit drugs were seized in the country,” General Ali Moayedi said.
The commander further emphasized that over the said period, police operations to fight illicit drugs have been increased by 163 percent compared to the same period last year.
