Iran, IAEA to Hold Nuclear Talks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A top Iranian diplomat is going to meet the UN nuclear agency chief on Tuesday to address some “remaining issues”, after Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) wrapped up 4 days of meetings in Switzerland on Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, who is also a senior negotiators in nuclear talks, is in the Austrian capital of Vienna to meet Yukiya Amano, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Araqchi said the meeting is aimed at settling the “remaining issues” in the course of cooperation between Tehran and the UN nuclear agency.

He said addressing those issues will help promote the cooperation.

The meeting comes after Iran and the G5+1 (also known as the P5+1 or E3+3) ended a round of diplomatic talks in Geneva.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and US Secretary of State John Kerry held several meetings in Geneva. Head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi and US Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz were also present in the meetings.

Zarif said after the talks that “some progress” has been made.

He stated that the next round of nuclear talks will be held on the sidelines of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva next week.

Zarif also ruled out agreement on individual topics as long as an overarching agreement is not reached on all issues.
Iran and the six nations are in talks to hammer out a final agreement to end more than a decade of impasse over Tehran’s nuclear energy program.
