Iranian FM to Brief Assembly of Experts on Nuclear, Regional Issues

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif is scheduled to attend a meeting of the Assembly of Experts in mid-February to discuss the latest developments in the region as well as the progress of nuclear talks with world powers.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami, a member of the presiding board of the Assembly of Experts, said that the 17th meeting of the assembly is to be held on March 10 and 11.

He added that Zarif will make a speech in the meeting on February 10 and brief the assembly on the negotiations with the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) over Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (also known as P5+1 and E3+3) are in talks to hammer out a final agreement to end more than a decade of impasse over Tehran’s nuclear energy program.

Several rounds of nuclear talks have been held in the past, and the current negotiations between Iran and the six powers are aimed at securing a lasting accord by the end of July.
