Iran Sends Humanitarian Aid to Afghanistan

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran delivered a large consignment of humanitarian aid to neighboring Afghanistan, an official at the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) said.

Shahaboddin Mohammadi Araqi, the IRCS’s deputy director for the international and humanitarian affairs, said the consignment weighs more than 20 tons and consists of ready-to-eat food, tents, ground clothes and blankets.

The humanitarian aid has been handed over to Afghanistan’s Red Crescent forces, Araqi added.

The consignment is part of Iran’s assistance to the Afghan people affected by recent deadly avalanches.

Several days of severe weather and heavy snow in the Afghan province of Panjshir in early March led to a series of deadly avalanches that collapsed houses and buried residents.

Hundreds of people had been killed in the avalanches with dozens injured and thousands more displaced.
