Iran Loses to Chinese Taipei in AFC Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran missed a place in the second round of qualifiers for the 2016 Rio Olympics with a 1-0 loss to Chinese Taipei on Tuesday.
In the match held in Group C of the 2015 AFC Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament at the Taipei Municipal Stadium in Chinese Taipei, Lee Hsiu-Chin scored the only goal of the match in the 44th minute.
Iran had made a winning start in the event beating Laos 5-1 on Sunday.
Chinese Taipei, as the winner of Group C, joined Myanmar and Jordan, who topped Groups A and B respectively, Thailand and Vietnam in Round 2 with a place in the final round going to the side that finishes top of the five-team table.
The competition will be held in Thailand from September 14 to 22.
The top-two sides from the Qualification Final Round - which features reigning Asian champion Japan, 2014 AFC Asian Cup runner-up Australia, DPR Korea, China, and Korea Republic - will fly the Asian flag at the women’s football tournament of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
