Israel Killed Highest Number of Palestinians in 2014: UN

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in the Thursday report that Israeli forces continue to violate the Palestinians’ inalienable rights to life and liberty. 

"Palestinian civilians continue to be subject to threats to their life, physical safety and liberty," with 2014 witnessing the "highest civilian death toll since 1967," OCHA said in the report on the humanitarian situation across the occupied territories.

During its latest war on the besieged Gaza Strip last summer, Israel killed a large number of Palestinians.

According to the UN, a vast majority of the Palestinian fatalities were civilians, including over 500 children, Press TV reported.

"In the Gaza Strip, 1.8 million Palestinians endured the worst escalation of hostilities since 1967. Over 1,500 Palestinian civilians were killed, more than 11,000 injured and some 100,000 remain displaced," the report said, adding, “More than 550 children were among the dead.”

This is while Palestinian sources say over 2,130 people lost their lives and some 11,000 were injured. Gaza health officials say the victims included 578 children and nearly 260 women. 

The UK-based Amnesty International, the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and several other international rights organizations have found the Tel Aviv regime forces guilty of using white phosphorus and bombing civilian targets, including hospitals and schools.

The latest UN report also added that at least 58 Palestinians were killed, mostly in clashes with Israeli forces, and more than 6,000 wounded during violent clashes In the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem al-Quds. 

The developments come as Palestinian officials say the Ramallah-based Palestinian Authority is planning to lodge its first case with the International Criminal Court (ICC) later this year against the Israeli crimes.
