International RoboCup Kicks Off in Tehran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The 10th edition of Iran's International RoboCup Open got underway in Tehran on Tuesday morning with over 180 Iranian and foreign teams attending the contest.

Iranian Vice-President for Science and Technology Affairs Sorena Sattari and Hamid Mirzadeh, the president of Islamic Azad University, inaugurated the RoboCup contest at the Tehran International Permanent Fairground.

145 teams from Iran and 36 teams from other countries are taking part in the 10th edition, competing with each other in 25 leagues of high school and university students until Friday, April 10.

Morteza Mousakhani, head of Robocup Open's organizing committee, said on Monday that teams from the Netherlands, Switzerland, Canada, Pakistan, Britain, Germany, China, Mexico, the US, India, Thailand, Egypt, Belgium, Iran, and Columbia would take part in the competition.

He further told the press that the international event seeks to promote artificial intelligence, robotics, software and hardware sciences, and their application in different industries.

Despite cruel sanctions against the country, Iran has in recent years made great headways in different fields of science thanks to the efforts made by its scientists and scholars.
