Afghan President Starts Visit to Tehran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Afghan President Ashraf Ghani arrived in Tehran on Sunday morning for an official visit at the invitation of his Iranian counterpart President Hassan Rouhani.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, Ghani is planned to hold talks with senior Iranian officials on a host of issues, including the ways to boost bilateral relation between Tehran and Kabul.

In his first visit to Iran as Afghan president, Ghani is accompanied by Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani, Finance Minister Eklil Ahmad Hakimi, Mines and Petroleum Minister Daud Saba, and Minister of Refugees and Repatriation Sayed Hussain Alemi Balkhi.

Back in February, Iran's Vice-President for Executive Affairs Mohammad Shariatmadari paid a visit to neighboring Afghanistan and extended President Rouhani's invitation to the Afghan head of state to visit Tehran.

The Afghan president had planned to travel to Iran in early March but postponed his state visit due to a fatal avalanche in his country that left more than 280 people dead.
