Iran’s Zarif to Meet US’s Kerry, EU’s Mogherini in NY for Nuclear Talks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Nuclear talks between Tehran and world powers will restart on the sidelines of a nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty review conference at the United Nations in New York earlier next week, with Iran’s top diplomat planned to meet his US counterpart and the EU foreign policy chief.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif is scheduled to hold separate bilateral meetings with US Secretary of State John Kerry and the European Union Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini in New York, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said.

Speaking to reporters in the Austrian capital of Vienna on Friday night, Araqchi said the process of drafting the text of a comprehensive nuclear accord will resume on the sidelines of the upcoming conference in New York.

He said the decision to resume the drafting process in New York was made given the fact that Iran’s whole “technical and disarmament experts” and those of other countries will be present in the NPT review conference.

“We decided to seize the opportunity and continue the drafting job on the sidelines of that conference, both at the level of deputies and experts,” Araqchi explained.

On April 2, Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached a framework nuclear agreement in Lausanne, Switzerland, with both sides committed to push for a final deal until the end of June.
