TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Navy on Monday launched a 150-ton floating dock off the coast of the southwestern port city of Khorramshahr.

The floating dock was inaugurated Monday in a ceremony attended by a number of high-ranking Iranian officials, including Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari in Khorramshahr.

Rear Admiral Sayyari in an address hailed the achievement and said, "We can proudly say that the knowledge of manufacturing, repairing and maintenance of various types of floating docks, which was previously held by European countries, has been indigenized by the Iranian navy experts."

The commander added that such achievements have contributed to the Navy's powerful presence in high seas.

He went on to say that the Navy plans to expand its presence in high seas during the current Iranian calendar year (began on March 21).

Earlier this month, Iran's Navy deployed its 34th flotilla of warships to the Gulf of Aden for a mission to ensure security for the traffic of Iranian shipping lines in the region and protect the Islamic Republic's interests in the international waters.
