Iran, South Africa Discuss Closer Cooperation in Oil, Gas Sectors

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh and visiting South African Minister of Energy Tina Joemat-Pettersson explored avenues for promotion of ties between the two countries in diverse economic areas.

In a meeting in Tehran on Tuesday, Namdar Zanganeh and Joemat-Pettersson held talks on a range of issues, including ways to boost mutual cooperation between the two countries in oil and gas sectors.

Iran was the main supplier of crude oil to South Africa before the imposition of anti-Iran sanctions.

South Africa bought about 68,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd) from Iran in May 2012, a month before it halted crude purchases due to pressures by Western countries.
