MP Urges OIC's Reaction to Riyadh's Move to Block Aid Delivery to Yemen

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian lawmaker decried Saudi Arabia for imposing blockade on war-hit Yemen and preventing the delivery of humanitarian aid to war victims in the Arab country, and called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to show proper reaction to the issue.

“Yemen, as an Islamic country, has been put under severe blockade by Saudi Arabia, and the siege has led to severe damages to innocent civilian people, including women, children and the elders,” Abbas Ali Mansouri Arani, a member of the Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, told the Tasnim News Agency.

He further described the Saudi regime’s move to prevent an Iranian plane carrying humanitarian aid from landing in the Yemeni capital, Sana'a, as an “ugly act”.

The OIC member states and the international community should immediately address the issue, he underlined.

Fighter jets of Saudi Arabian-led coalition bombed the runway of Sana'a airport on Tuesday afternoon to prevent an Iranian plane from landing in the Yemeni capital, Sana’a.

After the development, the Iranian foreign ministry summoned Saudi Arabia’s charge d’affaires to protest at the move.

This was the second time in just a few days that Iran’s foreign ministry summoned the Saudi diplomat for the same reason.

The protest came as last week, another Iranian plane carrying humanitarian goods for the war-torn people of Yemen was forced to return to Tehran after Saudi Arabia’s fighter jets refused the cargo plane landing in Yemen.
