Iranian, EU Diplomats Continue Drafting Final Nuclear Deal in New York

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Delegates representing Iran and the European Union continued high-level discussions about the text of a final comprehensive deal between Tehran and the six world powers over the country’s peaceful nuclear program.

In a meeting in New York on Thursday, deputies of Iran's foreign minister, Abbas Araqchi and Majid Takht Ravanchi, and the EU deputy secretary general for the external action service, Helga Maria Schmid, held eight hours of talks over the drafting the text of the final nuclear deal.

The talks will resume on Friday at 9 a.m. local time at the level of experts and will be continued by the deputies at 10:30 a.m. local time.

Drafting the text of the long-awaited final nuclear agreement between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) was started on April 22 in Vienna.

According to Araqchi, the Vienna talks mainly addressed the issue of “sanctions” in the comprehensive deal that Tehran and the Group 5+1 are trying to reach.

Iran and the six powers are in talks to hammer out a lasting accord that would end more than a decade of impasse over Tehran's peaceful nuclear program.

On April 2, the two sides reached a framework nuclear agreement after more than a week of intensive negotiations in Lausanne, Switzerland, with both sides committed to push for a final deal until the end of June.
