Iran, Afghanistan Ink MoU on Strategic Studies

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – High-ranking officials at the foreign ministries of Iran and Afghanistan signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on strategic studies in a bid to boost mutual cooperation between the two neighboring countries in the area of security and policy making.

The cooperation agreement was signed at a joint seminar by Faramarz Tamanna, the head of Afghan Foreign Ministry's strategic studies center, and Mostafa Zahrani, the general director of Political and International Studies Office at the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

In his remarks at the seminar, Zahrani hailed the deep religious and cultural affinities between Iran and Afghanistan and said Tehran is keen to further promote cooperation with Kabul in various spheres.

"Iran is ready to share its experiences, knowledge and capabilities with the Afghan brothers and sisters and cooperate with them in line with (efforts to) create stability, provide security and expand relations in all areas," he added.

Sharing some 900 kilometers of borders, Iran and Afghanistan enjoy amicable relations and are resolved to strengthen ties in a whole host of fields.

In April, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani paid an official visit to Iran and met with Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, who reiterated Iran's continued support for the security and development of Afghanistan and called for the enhancement of the bilateral ties.
