TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The Yemeni army, backed by popular committee forces, has destroyed four Saudi tanks after storming a base in Saudi Arabia’s southwestern city of Jizan.

Yemen’s Arabic-language al-Masirah satellite television network reported the development late on Monday.

It also reported that the Yemeni army targeted three Saudi vehicles in the southwestern Saudi city of Najran, which is located near the border with Yemen, with rockets and artillery shells.

Reports earlier in the day said that fighters from Yemen’s Houthi Ansarullah movement together with members of allied popular committees have launched an attack against a Saudi military base. The base is reportedly located near the mountainous Tuwayliq district of the northwestern Yemeni province of Sa’ada.

At least a Saudi tank and a military vehicle were also destroyed in rocket attacks on a Saudi military base by Yemen’s popular committees and the supporters of the Ansarullah fighters on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Saudi military attacks against Yemen continue to claim more lives, Press TV reported.

Media reports said that at least six people were killed and a woman sustained injuries in the Saudi airstrikes on a village in the district of Harad in Yemen's western province of Hajjah early on Tuesday.

Saudi Arabia started its military aggression against Yemen on March 26 -- without a UN mandate -- in a bid to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement, which currently controls the capital Sana’a and other major provinces, and to restore power to Yemen’s fugitive former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, who is a staunch ally of Riyadh.

The UN says since March, nearly 2,000 people have been killed and 7,330 others injured due to the conflict in Yemen. However, according to Yemen's Freedom House Foundation, the Saudi airstrikes have claimed the lives of about 4,000 Yemeni people.
