UN Seeks to Blacklist Israel over Killing Gaza Children

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The United Nations' Children and Armed Conflict group said the Israeli army should be added to its blacklist for the death of Palestinian children during Gaza War.

The move has been recommended by Leila Zerrougui, the special representative of the UN Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict.

Zerrougui said such a measure must be taken because of some five-hundred Palestinian children who were killed and 3,300 others who were injured during last summer's invasion of Gaza, Press TV reported.

Some observers believe UN Chief Ban Ki-moon would resist the call because the move could terminate the ties between Tel Aviv and the United Nations.

Earlier, US Senator Lindsey Graham warned that American funding to the UN could be cut if the world body functions moves to marginalize Israel.

Thousands of Israeli soldiers backed by tanks invaded the Gaza Strip last year. That was the first major Israeli ground offensive in Gaza in just over five years.

According to Palestinian health officials, dozens of Palestinians, including children, suffered from suffocation after inhaling "poisonous gases" released by Israeli forces during incursions into the Gaza Strip.

According to a report by United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the total death toll from the Israeli attacks topped 2,220, with over 10 thousands injured.

Nearly 70% of the victims in the war Israel waged against Gaza were civilians.
