Larijani Reiterates Iran's Unwavering Support for Syrian Campaign against Terrorism

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani hailed the Syrian government's resistance against terrorist groups in the Arab country, saying that Tehran is siding with Damascus in the anti-terrorism campaign.

"Today, we are contributing to the fight against terrorism whether in Syria or Iraq and believe that the campaign can be beneficial for the future of humanity," Larijani said Monday at a joint press conference with his Syrian counterpart Mohammad Jihad al-Laham in Tehran.

Iran has always backed regional countries in the fight against terrorists, he stressed.

Larijani further described the terrorist groups in Syria as "savage and adventurous" and said the Islamic Republic is confident that the Syrian nation will emerge "victorious" in the war against the foreign-backed militants.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with Takfiri terrorists from the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) currently controlling parts of it, mostly in the east.

The terrorist group claims as an independent state the territory of Iraq and Syria, with implied future claims intended over more of the Levant, including Lebanon, occupied Palestine, Jordan, Cyprus, and Southern Turkey.

The US and its regional allies have been supporting the militants operating inside Syria for more than four years.
