Egypt: Mursi Death Sentence Ruling Postponed

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - An Egyptian court delayed issuing a final ruling over a death sentence recommendation for former president Mohamed Mursi.

He and other top Muslim Brotherhood leaders have been convicted of killing and kidnapping police officers, attacking police facilities and breaking out of jail during the uprising against Hosni Mubarak.

“The court has decided to postpone the verdict until the 16th of June, to complete discussion with the defendants, as they continue to be held in custody,” a judge said on Tuesday.

Last month’s death sentence recommendation was referred to Egypt’s Grand Mufti, who has now given his non-binding opinion.

The court says it needs time to discuss it, before any final ruling is made, Euronews reported.
