Iran Informs OPEC about Plans to Boost Oil Production

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran has sent a letter to the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) about its plans to increase oil production once economic sanctions against Tehran are lifted, Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh announced.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the 6th OPEC International Seminar in the Austrian capital city of Vienna, Zanganeh said Iran has announced in the letter that it will boost its oil production to pre-sanctions level shortly after the removal of the embargos.

"We have requested that OPEC consider the issue in its decisions" he added.

The Iranian oil minister further said if OPEC members want the oil prices not to drop, they should create some space for Iran's increased oil production.

The OPEC is hosting its 6th International Seminar at the Hofburg Palace in Vienna. It started on June 3 and will end Thursday. The theme of the event is "Petroleum: An Engine for Global Development".

The seminar has been held to examine a range of important energy issues with presentations by ministers, oil company executives, representatives from international organizations, academic experts and industry analysts.
