TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's Allameh Tabataba'i University signed two agreements with Russia's Saint Petersburg State University and Moscow State University on scientific cooperation and joint projects.

Heading an academic delegation, Hossein Salimi, the Iranian university's chancellor, signed the cooperation agreements during a visit to Russia on June 1-3.

In meetings with the Saint Petersburg State University officials, the two sides agreed to forge partnership in oriental studies and hold a conference on “common cultural qualities of Iran and Russia”.

It was also decided that the rector of Saint Petersburg State University pay a visit to Iran in late summer at the invitation of Allameh Tabataba'i University.

Back in April, Iranian Minister of Science, Research and Technology Mohammad Farhadi and Russian president's adviser on education and science, Andrei Fursenko, stressed the need to facilitate relations between the two countries' universities and research centers.

Also earlier in October 2014, Iranian Vice-President for Science and Technology Affairs Sorena Sattari said Tehran sees no obstacle in the way of promoting relations with Moscow in various areas of science and technology.

Iran and Russia enjoy great potential for cooperation in science and technology as well as expansion of economic and trade relations.
