Iran's Kish Airlines to Get 10 New Aircraft

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The managing director of Kish Free Zone Organization (KFZO) announced on Sunday that Kish Airlines, which is owned by the KFZO, plans to purchase 10 new airplanes by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2015 - March 19, 2016).

"Three airliners will be added to Kish Airlines' fleet this summer and if everything goes well, we will purchase 7 more airplanes directly from the Boeing Company," Ali Asghar Mounesan said.

He noted that each of the airplanes will cost the Kish Free Zone Organization $17 million.

The Iranian official further expressed the hope that after purchasing the aircraft, the average age of the airlines' fleet will decrease considerably.

Back in April, Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi announced preparations for major investment in Iran's civil aviation industry as soon as anti-Iran sanctions are lifted under a comprehensive nuclear deal.

According to the minister, while Iran and the six powers are negotiating a long-awaited nuclear accord, Tehran has launched extensive talks with foreign companies to refurnish its air fleet and develop its old airlines to the international levels.

On April 2, Iran and the Group 5+1 (also known as the P5+1 or E3+3) reached a framework nuclear agreement in Lausanne, Switzerland, with both sides committed to push for a final deal until the end of June.
