In a ceremony attended by Iranian Vice-President for Science and Technology Affairs Sorena Sattari held on the sidelines of the INOTEX, the surgical robot named “Sina” was put on display.

According to the director of the project, Farzam Farahmand, the robot is named after Ibn Sina (Avicenna), a great Iranian polymath (980-1037 CE).

Farahmand said the US is the only country in the world that has designed similar robot, and added that this robot is the best device for abdominal surgery.

The robot can minimize possible damage to healthy tissues in surgical operations, he noted.

Iranian experts have in recent years made great headways in using modern medical technology to cure a broad range of diseases inside the country, making Iran as a top destination for medical tourism.
