Iran Not to Let Sanctions Continue: Rouhani

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani underlined on Sunday that his administration is not afraid of the sanctions imposed on the country but is determined to fight them until they are terminated.

"We are not afraid of the sanctions, but counter them. We will bring the sanctions to an end with the help of people," President Rouhani said on Sunday, addressing a huge gathering of people in the northeastern city of Bojnourd.

"We will bring the sanctions to an end at the very place where they were unfairly imposed against us, namely at the United Nations and at the Security Council," Iran's chief executive underlined.

In his speech, the president also highlighted the projects that his two-year-old administration has set up in spite of the sanctions, such as the environmental initiatives for saving the country's endangered lakes, rivers, wetlands and lagoons, producing clean fuel, and renovating municipal sewage systems.

His comments come amid talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) with the purpose of hammering out a lasting accord that would end more than a decade of impasse over Tehran's peaceful nuclear program.

On April 2, the two sides reached a framework nuclear agreement in Lausanne, Switzerland, with both sides committed to push for a final deal until the end of June.

Diplomats from the two sides are engaged in tight meetings to draft the text of the final accord, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
