Larijani Highlights Parliaments' Role in Promoting Iran-Mexico Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The parliaments of Iran and Mexico are playing a major role in deepening the relations between the two countries, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said.

Speaking in a meeting with a delegation of Mexican senators in Tehran on Monday, Larijani described relations between Iran and Mexico as "good and growing", saying that the ties can be further boosted through parliamentary cooperation.

"We are willing to expand our relations and cooperation with Mexico in diverse areas given the current potentials (of the two countries)," Larijani said.

In the meeting, Chairwoman of the Mexican Senate's Foreign Relations Committee Gabriela Cuevas Barrón, who headed the delegation, described Iran as a great and important country with an ancient civilization.

She further voiced her country's willingness to deepen relations with the Islamic Republic in various political, economic, scientific and cultural areas.

Cuevas Barrón had already travelled to Iran in July 2014.

During their 6-day stay in Iran, the Mexican senators are scheduled to hold talks on Tehran-Mexico City ties and parliamentary cooperation.

Back in December 2014, an Iranian parliamentary delegation had travelled to Mexico in the first official visit to the North American country in 35 years.

Promotion of ties with Latin American states has been among the top priorities of the Islamic Republic's foreign policy over the past few years.

Tehran has close political and trade relations with the region’s countries such as Cuba, Venezuela, Ecuador and Bolivia.
