Bahraini Activist Gets Jail Term for Slamming Saudi Attacks on Yemen

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A Bahraini court has sentenced a political activist to five years in jail for expressing his opposition to the Saudi regime's onslaughts against Yemen, local media said on Sunday.

World

Bahrain National Democratic Society's Secretary General Fazel Abbas was sentenced to 5 years in prison for issuing a statement in condemnation of the Saudi aggression on Yemen, which has killed hundreds of civilians, including women and children, so far.

On March 26, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies began to launch deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

According to a civil coalition monitoring Saudi Arabia's crimes, 3043 people, including 722 children and 532 women, have been killed during 95 days of Saudi-led military strikes on the Arab country.

The Bahraini regime is a member of the Saudi-led coalition and has participated in the military attacks on Yemen.

Bahrain, itself, has been the scene of almost daily protests against the Manama regime since early 2011, when an uprising began in the tiny Persian Gulf kingdom.

Scores of Bahrainis have been killed and hundreds of others wounded and arrested in the ongoing crackdown on peaceful protests.
