Iran World's 8th Minerals Producer

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The World Mining Congress (WMC) ranked Iran as the world's 8th top producer of minerals in 2013 on the basis of value.

Economy

According to World Mining Data 2015, released by the WMC, Iran produced more than 348 million tons of minerals in 2013, being 10th in the world rankings by the volume.

In the same year, Iran produced more than 17 million tons of iron and ferro-alloys, 658,000 tons of non-ferrous metals, 3 tons of precious metals, more than 28 million tons of industrial minerals and 300 million tons of mineral fuels.

On the basis of value, Iran was ranked 8th in that year, following China, the US, Saudi Arabia, Asian Russia, Australia, Canada, and European Russia.

The report said the total value of Iran's minerals production in 2013 exceeded $162 billion.

The WMC is a UN-affiliated organization, founded in 1958 by Boleslaw Krupinski, a prominent Polish scientist and mining engineer.

The organization is run by a permanent secretariat in Poland.
