Iran, IAEA Stress Definite Timetable for Resolving Nuclear Issues

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Behrouz Kamalvandi said Tehran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) stressed the necessity to set up a timetable for ending disputes over Iran's civilian nuclear program.

Speaking to the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) on Thursday, Kamalvandi pointed to recent meetings between IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano and Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani in Tehran, saying the two sides urged a specific schedule for removing misunderstandings over Tehran's nuclear program.

In the meetings, it was agreed that expert talks over the nuclear issue continue in the coming days, Kamalvandi said.

He further described the talks between Amano and Shamkhani as useful, saying that they have agreed to facilitate cooperation between Iran and IAEA.

Having left the Austrian capital of Vienna, Amano arrived in Tehran on Wednesday at the invitation of Shamkhani.

It came in the context of the IAEA's continued engagement with Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, US, Britain, France, and Germany) as they work toward a Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Iran and the sextet are in talks to hammer out a lasting agreement to end more than a decade of impasse over Tehran's civilian nuclear program.
