Iran Condemns Boko Haram Crimes in Nigeria

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham strongly denounced the recent slaughter of nearly 200 Nigerian people by the Boko Haram terrorist group.

Boko Haram carried out a fresh wave of massacres in northeastern Nigeria on Friday, locals said, killing nearly 200 people in 48 hours of violence.

In a statement on Saturday, Afkham condemned the attacks and expressed sympathy with the Nigerian government and nation.

She further referred to the growth of extremism and terrorism as a "common global threat", and underscored the need for efforts by all countries to fight against this inhumane phenomenon.

Boko Haram militants have staged multiple attacks across restive Borno state since Wednesday, gunning down worshippers at evening Ramadan prayers, shooting women in their homes, and dragging men from their beds in the dead of night.

The bloodshed is the worst since President Muhammadu Buhari came to power in May, vowing to root out the insurgency that has claimed more than 15,000 lives.
