Algeria Ready to Cooperate with Iran in Development Projects: Envoy

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – New Algerian Ambassador to Iran Ahriz Abdelmoun'aam voiced his country's readiness to boost Tehran-Algiers cooperation in diverse economic areas, including construction and development projects.

Speaking in a Monday meeting with Iran's Minister of Road and Urban Development Abbas Akhondi, Abdelmoun'aam said Algeria is determined to boost mutual cooperation with Iran in various areas, ranging from tourism to implementation of construction projects, road and railroad construction as well as dam building and electricity generation.

He further said the Algerian minister of housing and urban development is planned to visit Iran at the invitation of Akhondi at a proper time after the holy month of Ramadan.

Akhoundi, as the Iranian head of Tehran-Algiers economic commission, for his part, voiced Tehran's willingness to develop cultural and economic cooperation with Algiers.

Iran is determined to implement bilateral agreements reached between the two countries, he stated.

In a meeting with Abdelmoun'aam earlier in March, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif had underlined that the Islamic Republic is prepared to strengthen relations with Algeria in diverse political and economic spheres.

"We (Iran and Algeria) are in the same region and face similar challenges, like terrorism and extremism, and (accordingly) we are ready to improve our ties with Algeria in all areas," Zarif said at the time.
