Iran to Sign Only A 'Good' Nuclear Deal: MP

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian lawmaker underlined that the only acceptable nuclear agreement with world powers from Tehran's point of view is a "good deal", which would comply with the country's red lines and principles.

There will be no such thing as a "bad deal" if Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) are going to strike a nuclear accord, Alaeddin Boroujerdi told Tasnim on Tuesday, stressing that Tehran will agree only on a good deal.

He further said the main reason the nuclear negotiations have dragged out was "excessive demands" made by the other side, particularly by the Americans, as well as the persistence shown by the Iranian team (against the demands), he added.

Otherwise, the nuclear talks would have reached a conclusion months ago, according to the previous time tables, Boroujerdi, chairman of the Iranian parliament's national security and foreign policy commission, stated.

Iran and the six powers have been negotiating over the past 22 months to end more than a decade of standoff over Tehran's civilian nuclear program once and for all.

The two sides are busy negotiating in the Austrian capital of Vienna to clinch a nuclear deal.

Last week, the parties gave themselves an extra seven days beyond an end-June deadline to nail down details of the long-awaited accord.
