In a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Russian city of Ufa, Rouhani referred to Modi's premiership as an opportunity for the development of bilateral ties.

The Iranian chief executive also referred to India's request for the development of Iran's Chabahar port as well as New Delhi's partnership in the North-South corridor, saying, "The Islamic Republic of Iran's government sees no obstacle to the enhancement of (joint) economic and trade activities with India."

Rouhani further expressed the hope that his meeting with Modi would provide the grounds for further boosting the Tehran-New Delhi relations.

The two sides in this meeting underscored the development of scientific and academic ties, cooperation between the artists of the two countries, promotion of tourism, and speeding up visa processing.

President Rouhani arrived in Ufa on Wednesday night to attend BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) and Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summits and to hold meetings with his counterparts. He has made the trip at the official invitation of his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
