Iranian Deputy FM Calls Israel Root Cause of Extremism

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Morteza Sarmadi cautioned Muslims against Israel’s plots to sow discord among them, and stressed that the Zionist regime is behind extremism in the Islamic world.

Speaking in a meeting with the ambassadors of Islamic states here in Tehran on Wednesday night, Sarmadi expressed sorrow over the emergence of some problems for the Muslim world, like the spread of extremism and violence in the countries in the name of Islam.

He further called for Muslims’ vigilance against plots hatched by enemies of Islam, for example the Zionist regime of Israel, and stressed that the Zionist regime is the root cause of extremism in the Islamic world.

The Iranian diplomat also stressed the necessity for the promotion of unity and cooperation among Islamic countries to resolve their problems.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Sarmadi described the issue of Palestine and the holy Quds as the main concern of the Muslim states.

Back in January, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei had underlined Iran's determination to continue support for the Palestinian cause.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran will remain resolved (in its support) until the day that the cause of Palestine is materialized," Ayatollah Khamenei said in a meeting with Head of Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine–General Command (PFLP-GC) Ahmed Jibril in Tehran.

The Leader also noted that the issue of Palestine is among the top issues of the entire Muslim world.
