IRGC Lieutenant Commander Downplays US War Rhetoric

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Lieutenant Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Hossein Salami on Sunday played down US officials' warmongering rhetoric, saying Washington's military power has been proved to be invalid.

Whenever the Americans have failed in diplomacy, they have resorted to military threats, General Salami said in a ceremony held in the southeastern Iranian city of Zahedan.

His remarks came a couple of days after US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said that the recent nuclear deal with Iran does not take the military option off the table.

General Salami downplayed such remarks, saying that the US military power has long been "invalidated".

Elsewhere in his remarks, the senior commander warned against enemies' anti-Iran conspiracies, saying that they would not stop hatching plots against the Iranian nation.

Back in May, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei reaffirmed that the Iranian nation will not let any possible act of aggression against the country go unanswered.

The Leader said he has already made it clear, even in the tenure of former US president, that "the era of hit and run has ended", and that the Iranian nation will chase aggressors.
