Syrian Forces Make Gains against Takfiri Terrorists

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syrian army's forces continued destroying Takfiri terrorists' positions and hideouts in many areas across the Arab country, including in Idlib, Daraa, and Quneitra.

The army inflicted heavy losses upon members of the terrorist groups in personnel and equipment, Syrian news agency, SANA, reported.

In Daraa, an army unit bombarded Takfiri terrorists after monitoring their movements on the axis of Atman town, killing and injuring a number of them and destroying a machinegun-equipped vehicle.

An armored vehicle was destroyed with al-Nusra terrorists on board in a special operation by an army unit to the east of al-Qaser al-Abyadh restaurant on the eastern outskirts of Daraa city.

In the southern province of Quneitra, army units carried out a series of military operations against Takfiri terrorists' hideouts and supply routes.

30 terrorist militants were also killed in an operation carried out south of the city of Al-Zabadani, close to the border with Lebanon, by an army unit in cooperation with Hezbollah fighters.

The new achievements came after Syrian troops and volunteer forces earlier this week liberated some key positions around the central Syrian city of Palmyra, killing scores of ISIL militants in the area.

Lebanese sources said Monday that Syrian troops seized control of regions west of the Palmyra, forcing militants to abandon their positions on the hilltops and mountains there.

The Syrian forces are now just kilometers away from Palmyra which fell into the hands of ISIL in late May.

The conflict in Syria, which started in March 2011, has reportedly claimed more than 230,000 lives up until now.

The violence has also forced over 3.8 million Syrians to take refuge in neighboring countries, including Jordan and Lebanon. More than 7.2 million others have been displaced within Syria, according to the United Nations.
