Italy Eyes Long-Term Economic Cooperation with Iran
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Italy seeks to establish long-term mutual cooperation with Iran following a final nuclear deal over Tehran’s nuclear program rather than just target the consumer market of Iran, Italian Minister of Economic Development Frederica Guidi said.
Italy is not focusing on Iran’s market alone, but “mutual and long-term cooperation” with Tehran is among Rome’s top priorities for the post-sanctions era in Iran, Guidi said in a meeting with Head of Iran’s Chamber of Commerce Mohsen Jalalpour in Tehran on Wednesday.
Italy’s priority for the establishment of cooperation with Iran is preparation of the financial and banking infrastructure that would set the stage for the joint work, she added.
For his part, Jalalpour expressed the hope that Italy could secure its place as a pioneer in trade ties with Iran, which faces the looming prospect of a boom in the foreign investment following a comprehensive nuclear deal with six world powers.
Given the regional circumstances, Italy can have access to the region’s 400-million-strong market through Iran, he noted.
The visiting Italian minister has met with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Ali Tayyebnia during her stay in Tehran.
Her visit follows finalization of talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) over Tehran’s nuclear program.
Dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the deal would subject the parties to comply with a series of commitments, resulting in the termination of sanctions on Iran in exchange for certain restrictions on Tehran’s nuclear program during a defined period of time.
Experts believe that Iran’s economic growth would rise remarkably after the final nuclear deal takes effect.
