Iranian Official Cautions against West’s Islamophobia Project

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Secretary General of the Islamic Radios and Televisions Union Ali Karimian voiced deep concern over the plots hatched by some western and regional countries to spread Islamophobia in the world and portray a violent image of Muslims.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 8th General Assembly of Islamic Radio and TV Union (IRTVU) on Sunday morning, Karimian said, “Today, we are holding the conference and its sideline events at a time when the Islamic world is confronting a very dangerous proxy war.”

He further emphasized that the conspiracies of the hegemonic powers funded by certain regional countries, their activating and equipping Takfiri terrorist groups, and the spread of violence, extremism and ignorance are in line with the West’s Islamophobia project.

“Today, … we are witnessing very terrible incidents, which have depicted a violent, radical, illogical and ignorant image of Islam,” Karimian noted.

He added that the media outlets of the hegemonic powers and global Zionism and even some regional media are at the service of this “inauspicious project”.

The 8th General Assembly of IRTVU was opened this morning in a special ceremony held at the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) International Conference Hall.

Various national and international officials including former Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, IRIB Chief Mohammad Sarafraz, and International Adviser to Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ali Akbar Velayati were attending the ceremony.

The summit is attended by 220 TV and radio channels from 35 countries of the world.

On the sidelines of the General Assembly, a Media Technology Exhibition was also opened by Velayati and Karimian.

The motto of the gathering is “Prophet of Mercy; Mission of Resistance Media”.
