IAEA Committed to Confidentiality of Iran Roadmap Deal: Envoy

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Reza Najafi said the UN’s nuclear watchdog is committed to not disclosing the confidential parts of a roadmap agreement earlier reached between the two sides.

“Some parts of the roadmap are confidential and neither Iran nor the agency can reveal this content,” Najafi was quoted by the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) as saying on Thursday.

“The IAEA is specially committed to keep confidential the content of the arrangements (with Iran),” he added.

“We expect that this media controversy (about the roadmap) will probably continue until the day of implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and even after that,” the Iranian official said, adding that such fabricated reports about the roadmap are aimed at negatively affecting the process of JCPOA implementation.

He made the comments in response to a report by the Associated Press claiming that the IAEA has allowed Iran to use its own inspectors to investigate a certain site.

Earlier on Thursday, IAEA Director-General Yukiya Amano also rejected the AP report, saying, “I am disturbed by statements suggesting that the IAEA has given responsibility for nuclear inspections to Iran.

“Such statements misrepresent the way in which we will undertake this important verification work.”

The roadmap was signed on July 14, when Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached a conclusion on a lasting nuclear agreement that would terminate all sanctions imposed on Tehran over its nuclear energy program after coming into force.
