Iran Warns IAEA of Confidential Data Leakage

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reminded the UN nuclear watchdog of its responsibility to keep secrecy of the data on its agreements with Tehran.

“We won’t accept any kind of leakage of classified information by anyone,” Reza Najafi told reporters after a meeting of the IAEA’s Board of Governors in Vienna on Tuesday.

He also urged the UN agency not to bow to pressure from US lawmakers, who have asked that more information be made public relating to the IAEA’s part in verifying Iran's implementation of a lasting deal between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

“The IAEA should at the same time exercise utmost vigilance to ensure full protection of all confidential information coming to its knowledge,” Najafi noted.

The envoy also hoped for the “meaningful realization of fundamental shift” in the UN Security Council’s view on Iran’s nuclear program after adoption of a resolution that endorsed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Iran and the six powers on July 14 reached a conclusion on a lasting nuclear agreement that would terminate all sanctions imposed on Tehran over its nuclear energy program after coming into force.
