Rafsanjani Lauds Tehran’s Success in Thwarting Iranophobia Plots

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Chairman of Iran’s Expediency Council Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani praised the country’s political achievements in recent nuclear talks with world powers, saying that Tehran has successfully thwarted plots to spread “Iranophobia”.

In a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif here in Tehran on Monday, Ayatollah Rafsanjani highlighted the importance of “the art of diplomacy” in political negotiations and appreciated diplomatic efforts made by the Iranian foreign ministry.

“Détente, thwarting and countering the evil policy of Iranophobia, constructive interaction with the world while preserving (Iran’s) dignity, wisdom and power, are among the features and the art of diplomacy of (President Hassan Rouhani’s) administration,” the senior cleric noted.

He further appreciated efforts made by the Iranian team involved in the nuclear talks with the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), Zarif in particular.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (also known as P5+1 or E3+3) on July 14 reached a conclusion on a lasting nuclear agreement that would terminate all sanctions imposed on Tehran over its nuclear energy program after coming into force.

The 159-page deal has its own opponents and proponents both in Iran and the other countries that are parties to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), particularly the US.

While the United Nations Security Council has adopted a resolution to endorse the deal, the text of the document needs to be reviewed by both Iran’s Parliament and the US Congress.
