Leader, President Rouhani Invited to Opening Ceremony of Moscow Grand Mosque

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Head of the Russia Muftis Council Rawil Gaynetdin invited Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to attend the opening ceremony of the new Moscow Grand Mosque.

In a meeting with Iran's Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ali Jannati in Moscow on Thursday, Gaynetdin extended the invitation.

“Given that the opening of the mosque will be a great event in the Muslim world, we are eager to host Ayatollah Khamenei, as a great Islamic leader, and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani. We insist on the invitation,” he noted.

On September 23, 2015, on the eve of the holy Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha, the opening ceremony of the mosque will be held with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and heads of foreign states in attendance.

The new mosque is expected to become one of the largest in the post-Soviet countries and the most spacious in Russia.

Ali Jannati on Wednesday arrived in the Russian capital to attend and deliver a speech at the opening ceremony of Moscow International Book Fair (MIBF).

In this edition of the MIBF, Iran is the guest of honor with a free area of 300 square meters dedicated to Iranian cultural bodies present in the fair to hold workshops on Persian calligraphy, miniature, and music.

On the sidelines of the event, which will last until September 7, a special program titled “A Day for Iran” will be held on September 5.
