Iran Should Be Part of Syria Solution: Australia

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Deputy leader of Australia’s Labor Party said on Sunday that Iran, Russia and other key regional players should be part of a solution to the ongoing crisis in Syria.

"There's Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the US and its allies that all need to come to the table as part of developing a solution for Syria," Tanya Plibersek told ABC TV on Sunday.

Plibersek further added that the so-called anti-ISIL coalition has failed to stop the terrorist group’s violence in the war-stricken Arab country.

The coalition, comprising the US, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Qatar and the UAE, have since carried out over 6,000 air strikes in Iraq and Syria, at a cost of $3.2bln.

She also urged the Middle Eastern countries, particularly Arab League nations, to do more to help people fleeing Syria.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011. In the past four years, more than 200,000 people have died in Syria – overwhelmingly civilians – and around 4 million Syrian people are now refugees in other countries. Another 7.6 million are displaced inside Syria.
