Speaking during an open session of the parliament on Monday, Larijani described the extremist current as one of the major problems facing the Islamic Ummah (community), saying that it has caused “an immense suffering for the Muslim world”.
“Unfortunately, the (Takfiri) currents have dominated the world’s public opinion,” Larijani noted.
The Iranian parliament speaker expressed deep sorrow that the extremists are committing their crimes in the name of Islam, saying that they have tarnished Islam’s image.
Takfiri groups like ISIL, al-Nusra, and al-Qaeda have been committing heinous crimes in the name of Islam in many Middle Eastern countries like Iraq, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan and others.
The terrorist groups are believed to be supported by the West and some regional Arab countries.
