Iran Sinks Malaysia at FIBA Asia Championship

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran Eased Past Malaysia 122-42 in a one-sided Group A match at the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship on Friday.

Six Iranians scored in double-figures, led by Mohammad Hassanzadeh’s 28 points. Fellow big man Asghar Kardoust also impressed with 24 points, while Sajjad Mashayekhi and Mahdi Kamrani tallied 14 and 15 points respectively.

Malaysia was paced by the combined 27 points of Wei Hong Choo and Chee Kheun Ma.

Hamed Hadadi did not play in this match.

The reigning Asian champion leads Group A without a defeat and qualifies for the second stage.

Iran has already defeated Japan and India in the tournament.

The 2015 FIBA Asia Championship for Men is the 28th continental basketball championship in Asia.  The competition is being held in Changsha from September 23 to October 3.

The winner of the tournament qualifies for the basketball tournament on the 2016 Summer Olympics, while the next three best teams will participate at the 2016 FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Men, as stated by FIBA and the IOC in qualification quota.
