President Calls on Iranian Expats to Invest at Home in Post-Sanctions Era

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani invited the country’s nationals residing in other countries to seize the ample investment opportunities in their homeland following the termination of anti-Iran sanctions under a lasting nuclear deal between Tehran and six world powers.

Addressing a gathering of Iranian expatriates residing in the US in New York on Saturday, President Rouhani urged Iranian investors to make the most of the removal of sanctions after a final nuclear deal between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) comes into force.

The president said Iranian expatriates should outdo foreigners in making investment in Iran, stressing that his administration welcomes their presence in the country.

He emphasized the need for attracting investment from both local and foreign sources as part of efforts to create jobs and reach a constant 8-percent economic growth, stressing that the goal is achievable given Iran’s human resources, energy reserves and geostrategic position.

“The country requires development and investment in the water sector, environment and transportation, and we ask Iranian expatriates to take the first step in this regard,” President Rouhani added.

The remarks came against the backdrop of increasing international enthusiasm for investment in Iran after Tehran and the Group 5+1 on July 14 reached a conclusion over the text of a comprehensive 159-page deal on Tehran’s nuclear program.

The nuclear deal would terminate all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran after coming into force.

Experts believe that Iran’s economic growth would rise remarkably after the final nuclear deal takes effect.
