Iranian, French FMs Discuss Cooperation on Regional Peace

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Foreign ministers of Iran and France in a meeting in New York emphasized the need for closer cooperation to settle conflicts in the region, including those in Syria, Yemen and Iraq.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his French counterpart Laurent Fabius met on the sidelines of the 70th annual session of the United Nations General Assembly on Monday.

The top diplomats discussed regional crises and both stressed the need for cooperation in the fight against terrorism in Syria and Iraq.

They also highlighted the significance of opting for political ways to bring about peace and stability in the two countries and in Yemen.

Zarif and Fabius also talked about approaches to implementing the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a lasting nuclear deal that Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) finalized in July.

Expansion of economic and trade ties between Iran and France, as well as the exchange of trade delegations was among the other issues discussed in the meeting.

The comprehensive nuclear deal, reached on July 14 in Vienna, would terminate all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran after coming into force.

Experts believe that Iran’s economic growth would rise remarkably after the final nuclear deal takes effect.
