Iran to Construct New Terminal for Oil, Gas Exports: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran plans to build its second terminal for exporting oil and gas in the port city of Jask in the country’s southern province of Hormozgan.

Secretary of the Supreme Council of Iran’s Free Trade, Industrial, and Special Economic Zones said the country’s second terminal for exporting oil and gas after the Kharq Island in the Persian Gulf will be constructed in Jask.

Akbar Torkan said the country plans to develop Makran coasts, southeast of Iran, and added that the establishment of Jask and Bushehr free trade zones will result in the development of country’s southern areas.

“Moreover, the National Iranian Oil Company has plans to set up a hub for oil exports in the Oman Sea,” he added, IRNA quoted Shana as reporting.

Pasabandar, also known as the coasts of Makran, is located in Iran's southeastern region, next to the Oman Sea.

The strategic area has attracted the attention of many Iranian decision-makers and military officials, particularly after Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei stressed the need for development of the region.

Back in November 2014, in a meeting with high-ranking Navy commanders, Ayatollah Khamenei said, "The issue of development of the coasts of Makran is also among those basic tasks, and the plans for that region should be carried out more rapidly."
