Iran, EU to Release Join Statement on Formal Adoption of JCPOA

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Minister and the EU Foreign Policy Chief are expected to issue a joint statement to announce the official adoption of a nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers once the EU and the US declare an end to the anti-Iran sanctions, an Iranian official said.

As soon as the EU and the US pass laws on termination of the anti-Iran sanctions, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the European Union’s Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini will release a joint statement to proclaim that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a final nuclear agreement between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), has been formally adopted, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Sunday.

On the adoption day, the nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran by the US president’s executive orders will be reversed, the implementation of the US Congress sanctions will be halted and the EU will also lift all the economic sanctions on Iran, he explained.

But those acts will not come into force until the implementation day, when the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) would verify Iran’s undertakings.

Iran’s commitments under the historical July 14 accord include changes in the number of its centrifuge machines in the Natanz facility, as cited in the JCPOA, and other measures in the Fordow and Arak sites.

In the meantime, the EU and the US will be preparing a series of instructions for their companies to prepare the ground for carrying out the JCPOA.

The nuclear accord is expected to practically take effect in the next two months.
